Yesterday A. just wanted to throw his mobile phone against the wall. He didn’t.

He has tried to get in contact with the Skype Service of the Greek Asylum Service for two months; every single day, again and again. But he didn’t succeed. A. and his friend M. have been living for two months in a military camp one hour by car from Thessaloniki. We were denied entry as only residents and registered persons from NGOs are allowed to enter. Nonetheless we managed to talk to residents around the camp.

In this camp, located close to Vervara and called “Armatolou Kokkinou”, A. and M. are living together with about 400 other refugees. Almost all of them are families from Syria. Besides them, there are four unaccompanied minor refugees in the military camp as well.

A.’s and M.’s days start like that: “Every day at exactly 8 o’clock in the morning we have to queue in order to receive our breakfast – which is always the same: one croissant per person”, reports A. In general, A. has the feeling that the refugees are “just animals, not humans” in the eyes of the military service .

Speaking about the infrastructure in the camp, A. declares: “When we arrived in the camp there was no warm water for taking a shower here at all. When we asked them, the military service always told us that someone is going to come next week to fix the hot water. They kept on saying that., ’next week or in two weeks‘. But no one ever came.

So we realized that we need to take care about these things on our own. And so we went to the next city, bought the necessary equipment, went back to the camp and connected the boiler with the electricity by ourselves. Now it is working.” Additionally the residents of the camp themselves took care of getting a Wifi-access in the camp.

The only thing that A. and M. point out to be somehow positive is that they are sleeping in rooms instead of living in tents, as it is usual in most of the camps in Greece. Every family shares one room, no matter if there are three or eight people in a family. But still there are rooms and no tents…

A. and M. have both close family members in Germany. But still they have been stuck in Greece for three months. A. wants to know: “Who is responsible for this bad situation I have to live in these months?!” He cannot understand why not even those who already reached Greece are allowed to cross the border to other countries in the European Union – in order to be with their families. And in the end he states: „After all there is this war in Syria. But if the war ended tomorrow, you could be sure that we would return immediately the day after. If there was no war in Syria we definitely would not come to Europe or to Germany. That’s for sure.“

ع و صديقو م مقيمين حوالي شهرين بكامب عسكري(Vervara) بعيد ساعه عن مركز المدينة مع 400 شخص الأغلبية منن عائلات ومعهم 4 أشخاص قاصرين. نسبة كبيرة من العائلات سوريين وعندهم أطفال.

وهون بيعاملونا متل العساكر والضباط قاسيين وحدين المعاملة ومن معاملتن القاسية بتقرأ بعيونن انولحناحيوانات بكل وقت:
كل يوم لازم الساعه 8 بالضبط نفيق ونوقف عدورالأكل الطويل لنجيب فطورنا يلي هو كروسانه لكل شخص!!!

وقت وصلناعالكامب كان الوضع سيئ جدا ومافي كان في مي سخنة للحمام وكل مانسألهن يقلولناانوبعداسبوع اواسبوعين جايه ورشة تصلحن وبعداسبوعين مااجاحدا واتفقنا مع كم شب ووصلناالمي السخنه لوحدنا رحناعالمدينة واشتريناالغراض يلي منحتاجهاوهلئ عنامي سخنه.
وحتى وسيلة الإتصال والتواصل الإجتماعي دبرناهالوحدنا.

بيجينا كل يوم للغدا أكل رز، عدس اوشوربة  (أكل عسكري) والمشكله انومامنقدرنطبخ لحالنا.
لأنومافي مطبخ وأدوات طبخ ومافي غاز مافي شي مجهز.

ولحنامنفضل انونطبخ ونأكل لوحدنا لأن الأكل موطيب ومامننجبرالصبح بكير نفيق
النقطة الوحيدة يلي هون منيحه انوعمنام بغرف موبالخيم متل ماكنا بغيركامبات ننام.

بس المشكلة انوكل عيلة بحقلهاغرفة في غرف ساكنين فيها3 أشخاص وفي غرف ساكنين فيها 8 أشخاص بس بالنهاية هنن غرف وموخيم …
